The Toronto DKC Frolic was a great success! I can't thank the organizers especially Joan Kass who made the day wonderful for everyone involved.
We had a big celebration earlier this week when our daughter Megan turned 19. For those of you not in Ontario, Canada - the drinking age is 19. She vote last year when she turned 18, but this year she can now legally drink. After spending her first year away at college, she has seen up close that big responsibility comes with drinking. We have no worries, she is a smart young woman who we are very proud of. She also found out this week that she has made the Dean's List at her school. She has a job for the summer and now has a little extra time to go back to her hobby of painting. Our son Dylan has been asked to practice with the senior basketball team at his high school in order for the team to get a head start on playing together for next year.
It has been a week of spring time weather, the tulips are blooming, each day the buds on the trees get larger so one day soon we will see beautiful green leaves! Unless you live in an area of four defined seasons I don't think you can really appreciate how much Canadians love to see spring!
Keep knitting...until next time.....Affectionknitter!

DKC Frolic
Where does the time go? All of the sudden it is almost the end of April and the DKC Frolic is upon us! I am doing last minute preparations and it sure looks like it is going to be a great show. Please stop by and see me in Booth 29 in the Shokoki Court just inside the main entrance! I am bringing some great kits, pewter buttons, terrific wooden and locally hand crafted metal shawl pins, and alot of great deals on colour matched balls of yarn. Cannot wait to see you all.
On the home front our daughter has arrived home from college with a new appreciation of home, family and home cooking! Now if we can just get her to put away all the stuff she brought home with her! We are all happy to have her back for a few months.

Finally...a Golf Sweater!
With visions of spring happening up here north of Toronto on the weekend and the persuation of a customer at Stitches Santa Clara I am just about finished with a children's golf sweater kit. I can't wait to show it to you all. It will be online soon as I only have to finish one more arm and the hat. It is really cute! It will also be at DKC 's Knitter's Frolic in Toronto on April 25, 2009.
Like alot of you out there we had a big surprise waiting for us when we woke up on Monday morning. Snow!! and lots of it!! Sunday the big guy and I raked the yard, cleaned up the gardens, even sat on the deck steps and enjoyed a beverage or two in the sunshine. Who would have believe that this week you can't even see the grass, gardens or the deck. I hope this is the last of it - today the sun is shining and the temperature has gone up melting those little flakes away. Soon I will see the grass again!
We introduced our knitted jewellery line to rave reviews at Stitches. I am just about to put them online so please take a look "Wired to Knit" . There will be more designs coming soon!
I was over at Sweaterkits' Studio the other day and Caroline seemed to be inspired by the Indian culture as her last dyelot some beautiful spicey reds, mustard yellows and jalapeno greens. Let me know if you'd be interested in seeing photo.
A big hello to my Dad! He told me the other day that he reads my blog!

Back Home
Wow! It has been a long time since I have been blogging. Actually it has been quite some time since I have had the time to actually sit down and blog. Stitches West was a great success! It is so nice to see old friends and to make new ones. Our Silk Promotion was a sell out. Hand painted Italian silk in so many beautiful colors and a choice of a pattern that you could make with the 100g skein. I can't wait to see some photos of those scarves, shawls and twin tails made up. Send those pictures in. After Stitches closed it's doors on Sunday night the Big Guy, our son (who flew out as it was his 16th birthday on Sunday) and I travelled north to San Francisco for a wonderful two day mini-vacation. We visited Fisherman's Wharf, the Golden Gate Bridge, took a ride on the cable car, visited all the sports stores in San Francisco. (It was his birthday after all) I think the highlight of our trip was our tour to Alcatraz. The audio tour is so interesting, walking around you could hear a pin drop - so much history. We had the pleasure of meeting Sean Connery, yes the real Sean Connery while at Alcatraz. He was visiting for the first time since he had finished the movie "The Rock". A very distinguished looking man who is shorter than I would have imagined!
We arrived home long enough for me to send out my mailouts from Stitches, visit with our daughter and a week later we headed to Florida for a vacation. March Break in Florida with the big guy, our son and his friend (Meg had her break in February) and "the Road to the Final Four". Well I got lots of knitting done while the boys watched basketball. Beautiful weather, beautiful condo on the beach - we arrived home rested, tanned and feeling fine.

Play Yarn Dash

Two years ago the Ontario government (where I live) instituted a statutory holiday the third Monday in February, as Family Day. It is a long time between New Years and Easter without a day off to look forward to. This past weekend we did lots of family visiting and had a great time. Our daughter came home from College on Friday and the four of us went out to for dinner. We had a great meal, great conversation and an overall terrific time. Saturday (Valentines Day), the Big Guy and I went to visit some friends for dinner. They live on a lake about an hour north of us and the Big Guy has just finished renovating their home (in his spare him). It is absolutely beautiful. On Sunday was our bi-annual family birthday bowling tournament party. We celebrate all of us who birthday's fall between November and April with bowling, dinner and of course birthday cake. On Monday, we make the trip north 1.5 hours to my parents place. My daughter had not seen them since Christmas. We had a nice visit, lunch and helped them around the house a bit.
Overall a great family weekend....visiting, eating, drinking and knitting....best of all I didn't have to cook dinner once. What a treat! I think I better make up for it tonight.
I am putting together the new "Wrapper Sweater" so it will be ready for Stitches...busy, busy, busy!

Busy Birthday Week
With all the planning and preparation for Stitches West, I almost forgot last Friday was my birthday. The big guy (aka my husband) advised me that I should be ready to go out at 6:30pm and be dressed snazzy casual. Where he ever got the words "snazzy casual" is beyond me, but after all these years together I actually new exactly what he meant. He took me to a local restaurant and to my surprize 6 of my favourite people arrived to join us for dinner. There we were a policeman, a electronic salesman, a contractor, a personal support worker, a book keeper, a pilot, a flight attendant and me a knitting business owner laughing and carrying on into the night. A great time was had by all and I look forward to next year!
With the internet nothing is out of reach anymore - you can look at what you want to, you can buy what you want to (preferrably yarn) and you can talk/write to who ever you want to, no matter where they are in the world. A few weeks ago I searched for a girl I met in kindergarten. We were best of friends until my parents (we always blame the parents) decided to move in Grade 3. We kept in touch and the last time I saw her was my wedding almost 23 years ago. My girlfriend now lives in London, England with her husband and owns her own wine business. We got in touch last week, as it turns out her parents actually live around the corner from me now. Her father has cancer and she makes the trip "over the pond" about every 8 weeks. My Mother also has cancer.
People say everything happens for a reason - with two of our parents living with cancer, we got in touch for the first time in 23 years - we both feel this is fate. Take the time to look up an old friend and enjoy! I'd love to hear how it turns out!
